Ade’s Diary – March 2025

Ade’s Diary – March 2025

I still can’t believe it’s March, or rather the end of March. It’s a sunny day today, and Spring is officially here.

It’s been an active month for Nubian Skin with a lot happening in the background. As I made the decision to shift away from lingerie (at least in the near term), it’s meant that I’ve had to really consider what I want to do with the business and the community I have built.

I went to university at Duke University, and one of the highlights of my month was attending a Leadership Forum for UK alumni event by the Duke-Coach K Center on Leadership & Ethics. It was a very insightful discussion, and of the many valuable points made that day, two that stuck with me were:

The importance of noting daily moments of wonder and awe

Knowledge is ubiquitous – connection is key

The term connection really hit me. For those of you who read this monthly diary, I feel connection is what I (and Nubian Skin) have built over the years. I also am very aware that one of the biggest blessings in my journey with Nubian Skin is the connections I have made with so many amazing brand owners and entrepreneurs who I admire.

Looking forward, that connection is something I want to harness, and I’ve been working on an exciting project to do just that. It is called ‘Handpicked by Nubian Skin’, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Connection was a theme for March. I attended a panel and discussion, hosted by Business Insider and UK Export Finance. It was a great discussion educating minority business owners on resources available to them to aid in exporting. It was great to see some familiar faces, but also to meet some amazing new brands doing fantastic things.

I also had a very fun day with meeting some incredible women as part of the CLAAV collective. We boarded the British Pullman and then spent the day getting to know each other and learn more about each others’ stories.

Culture wise, it was a good month. I got to see a amazing production of Turandot at the Royal Opera. It was particularly brilliant to see the lead played by an Asian man. It shouldn’t seem surprising given the Opera is based in fictional ancient China, but it is rarely the case. It was made even more brilliant watching the conductor, Rafael Payare, with his afro moving while he was passionately leading the orchestra.

I also caught an amazing photography exhibition called the Spirit of Lagos celebrating the Abi Morocco Photography studio in Lagos. The pictures of 1970s Lagos were so fun, and it felt like a love story of the arts in Lagos and also the husband and wife who created the studio out of their passion for photography.

My month ended with a very lovely Mothering Sunday. I was spoiled with lots of cards and drawings and a very special handmade MUM bracelet.

Watch out for more news on Handpicked by Nubian Skin.

Until next month.
